Salisbury Cathadel

By the time we got to the Cathedral, the sun was out and is was warm again. Salisbury was the tallest building in the UK until the mid 1960's  And what a Tower, Started int he 13th Century and finished in the 14th Century What a building to greet you. Tall and impressive The front Door of Course was closed but what a door. Inside the sun was bright beaming into the windows. With High Ceiling arches. Graves for brave knights Windows with a lot of detail And of course a reflection pool in the middle. Yes a pond in the middle of a cathedral. But it just added to the quiet space. The windows were very tall with a lot of details. Like this little child I got to stand behind the alter and see the whole of the cathedral. Outside was the Cloister and attached is the chapter House that holds one of the Magna Carta's This was Jennifers target as she is currently studying.  But Outside, what a building.

Salisbury Township

Salisbury is a town in the Salisbury Plains next to the Nadder River. The Cathedral can be seen from miles out. The town has Tudor houses in the city Catherdal Arch is what separates the town from the cathedral area. Even the 1800's homes look of great character. The river runs through the town. But the old mill is no longer in use. There are other Churches within the city but all were closed. And the market Square is still open for business. A very Nice City.

Mompesson House

Mompresson House is a NH house next to the Salisbury Cathedral. This house was left to the NH about 20 Years ago.  They restored it and it is a Victorian house,  Nothing caught my eye except the beautiful plastered Ceilings. All the downstairs room has been restored to their best. The back of the hosue still had it's gardens but being autumn, they needed work.

Silchester

Silchester is Small Village in Hampshire. It also happens to be the remains of an old Roman Fortified Town. We decided to stop here on the way to Salisbury. The Morning was fresh but the views were great ,  great colours and mist added just little extra to the screen. The town was around for many centuries before the Romans arrived. in 30AD. this is about the time Christ was crucified.  The wall that were built are at least 6 foot thick and made of flint stone and mortar. This town was about  10 Hectares in size. The Grass was very wet and the walk was cold, but it was great start to the day to be somewhere where 2000 years ago, was a major town with activities. Jennifer was doing well. so we decided that the rest of the day was a go.

Old sarum

Old Sarum is major fortification that that is just outside the Town of Salisbury. The fort was small fortification up until when William the Conqueror arrived. The site was well maintained by English Heritage. The sun was out and view were great. He turned the fort into a major fortification in the 13th Century. So there was Castle, and large Abbey with a small  large town surrounding it Most of it  was stone walls that still existed. and descriptions of what they were. These for example were the Kitchens. and soldiers quarters.

Jennifer Down Sick

Jennifer is down sick with tummy issue again, this time she was in for a week. It happened to be the last week of school and she end spending her school break still recovering. So October will be a quiet Month.

Tyntesfield House

Tyntesfield House was the last stop of the Welsh holiday, although Tyntesfield House technically is not in Wales, but south of Bristol. This beautiful house was a grand home for 100's of years.   The house was one that evolved over time With it's grand entrances Enlarged Rooms Grand old Libraries  It even had it's own Chapel.  With Grand windows.  But it was the view of the garden and what was then the estate as far as the eye could see.  The current gardeners love Dahia's  And the walled garden was a disappointment, Pumpkins everywhere but not much else  But the view of the hosue was impressive enough. This old house just grew on us.
